Why a long-term test in winter
Radon is a natural gas that comes up from the ground and can collect inside a house. You cannot see or smell it, so a test is the only way to know your own home’s level.
Health Canada’s radon guideline is 200 Bq/m3. It recommends a long-term test of at least 3 months, ideally in fall or winter.
From booking to your result
You request a visit. Online or by phone. We order a kit for your home.
We place it. Our technician comes in a two-hour window and the kit stays for 90 days.
We take it to the lab. When the 90 days are up, we take the finished kit to the lab ourselves.
We explain the result. If the level is high, we walk you through the next step.
If your result is high
Radon mitigation draws the gas from under the house and vents it outside, usually with a fan and a pipe like the one in the photo.
Any mitigation work is quoted on its own after your result, and the choice to go ahead is yours.

Why does the test take 90 days?
Radon levels rise and fall from day to day. Health Canada recommends a long-term test of at least 3 months, ideally in fall or winter, and the kit we place runs for 90 days.

Health Canada recommends testing in fall or winter. A test placed in November finishes in February, and November is Radon Action Month in Canada.

An Alberta Indoor Comfort technician, our own employee, during a visit with a two-hour arrival window confirmed before it.
How does radon get into a house?
Through cracks in the foundation and gaps around pipes, drains, sump pits and other openings in contact with the soil. Radon has no colour or smell, so a test is the only way to know your level.
When should I retest for radon?
Retest after any major renovation, especially work on the foundation or basement.
