Try these checks first
Some no-heat calls are fixed in two minutes without a technician. It costs nothing to look.
The thermostat
Set to heat, set above the room temperature, and fresh batteries if it takes them.
The furnace switch and breaker
The switch beside the furnace looks like a light switch: make sure it is on. Reset a tripped breaker once; if it trips again, stop and call.
The filter
A clogged filter chokes airflow and can shut the furnace down on its safety switch. Replace it if it is grey.
The vents outside
Snow and ice can block the furnace’s intake and exhaust pipes on the outside wall. Clear them by hand.
If you smell gas, do not touch switches or the thermostat. Leave the house and call 911 from outside.

Signs it is an emergency, not a service call
No heat at all
No fan, no burner, no response at the thermostat.
Cold air from every vent
The fan runs but the air never warms up.
A burning or electrical smell
Turn the furnace off at the switch and call.
Banging or grinding
A hard bang on start-up, or grinding while it runs.
A breaker that keeps tripping
It trips again every time you reset it.
A carbon monoxide alarm
Get everyone outside, then call 911 before you call us.
Cold is harder on some households than others. If someone at home is elderly, very young or unwell, treat a furnace that has stopped in winter as urgent rather than waiting it out.
What happens when you call
Outside office hours? Request service online any time and we’ll contact you with the next available time.
We send a technician. Tell us what the furnace is doing and we route it to a technician.
You approve the price first. You see the number before work starts, and anything extra is approved before it happens.
