Know the Warning Signs

Signs Your Heater Is About to Fail

If your heater exhibits any of the following issues, it’s a sign it could be on its last legs and needs heating maintenance services right away.

  • It blows cool or cold air
  • It emits strange sounds like clanging or banging
  • Sudden rise in utility bills
  • More frequent repairs
  • Having to constantly adjust the thermostat

Most furnaces and heaters are built to last 15-20 years, so if your heater is over that age, it’s time to consider calling a heating repair contractor for a tune-up or a replacement.

Not Just Furnaces

Calgary Heating Systems Go Beyond Forced-Air

Many Calgary homes — especially older properties in the inner city, luxury builds, and commercial conversions — use heating systems that aren’t gas furnaces. Boilers feeding radiant in-floor systems or baseboard heaters, unit heaters in workshops and garages, and electric radiant systems all require technicians trained on the specific equipment.

We repair the full range. If your heating system isn’t a furnace, you’re not looking at the wrong page — you’re looking at the right one.

  • Radiant in-floor heating systems
  • Baseboard heater repair and replacement
  • Unit heaters — garage, commercial, workshop

Furnace Repair
Prevention Beats Repair

How to Maintain Your Heater

Experts say most heater problems could’ve been prevented if the owner had conducted regular maintenance. Also, most of the calls about having no heat happen because the furnace has been neglected. The most important thing you can do to maintain your heater is change the filters. A dirty filter makes your furnace work harder, which shortens its lifespan. Change your filter every 2-3 months for best results. Also, call a professional heating maintenance services company for annual inspection to ensure your heater is ready to go when you need it most.

Don’t use those chemical drain cleaners again! Our drain cleaning services offers safe, effective drain cleaning that won’t damage pipes.

FAQ

Heater Repair Questions

My baseboard heaters aren’t warming up — what’s the problem?

For hydronic baseboards (water-filled, connected to a boiler), common causes are a failed circulation pump, air trapped in the line, a stuck zone valve, or a faulty thermostat. For electric baseboards, the element or thermostat is usually the fault. We diagnose on-site and quote before any repair work starts.

My boiler is making noise — is that normal?

Banging, clunking, or kettling sounds from a boiler are not normal. Banging usually indicates water hammer — trapped air or pressure fluctuations. Kettling (rumbling) is often limescale buildup on the heat exchanger. Both should be diagnosed and addressed before they cause further damage.

How is heater repair different from furnace repair?

A furnace is a forced-air system — it heats air and distributes it through ducts. Heater repairs on this page cover hydronic (water-based) systems: boilers, radiant in-floor, baseboard, and unit heaters. The components, failure modes, and diagnostic approach are different. Both are within AIC’s scope — we service all types.
